Bus Shelters re-painted

You may have noticed that the bus shelters in the care of the Parish Council are currently getting a clean and a fresh lick of paint. The glass shelter by the post office is also due to receive a timber bench, which will make waiting for the buses a little more comfortable.

It’s a sad thing but fresh paint can be a lure for the spray can vandal, so please do look out and report if you find any inappropriate embellishments – or embellishers; to the police in the first instance and then the clerk.

The Scheme defines how the Parish will make available the information it holds, and commits the Council to make that information available as a normal part of its operation.
You can read the Model Publication Scheme by clicking the link
or the link on the “What the Parish Council does” page. It will also be referred to in the Parish FAQ’s.
The details of how we apply the Scheme are laid out in the

Charfield – Road Closure Update
Latest News just received below……. 12th December…….
“…..apologies but I have just received an amendment to the dates for the scheme in Charfield. A decision was made yesterday to move this scheme back to the next financial year. What this means is that the scheme will not happen until April at the earliest but I’m afraid I cannot be any more specific at this time.
Sorry to keep moving this scheme back but the financing on the scheme forced the move.
I have informed highways of the delay and hopefully you can publicise this as appropriate.
I will contact you again as soon as I am given some definite dates but this seems unlikely to happen before the new year….”

Dan Bown Wessex Water Engineer

Closure of Wotton Road : January-February 2009
A while back the Council was advised of essential sewer works to be carried out by Wessex Water using ‘trenchless technology’ – that is, burrowing under the ground without disturbing the surface.
Unfortunately it has been determined that the ground make-up makes it unfeasible to use the burrowing equipment, and the work is now being planned using trenches and road closures.
Plans are still being finalised between Wessex Water and South Glos Highways, but the current plans are these:
The closure of Wotton Road is proposed between 46 Wotton Road (by the traffic bollards) and the car park entrance to the Memorial Hall. This includes the only access to the houses in Newtown. In speaking with Dan Brown, Design Engineer for Wessex Water, we’ve established that access to Newtown will be available from one side or another during most of the works, although for about half a day access will be impossible (while the trenching goes on directly in the entrance to the lane).
Through traffic that normally uses the Wotton Road to reach the motorway from Wotton and Kingswood and vice versa will be re-routed via signposted diversions.
Mr Brown has agree to come and address the Council at the next Meeting, on Tuesday 11th November. Parish Council Meetings are open to the public. In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns please contact Wessex Water directly.
