Bench Restoration in Memory

Charfield Parish Council has restored the old railway bench in the toddler play area, in memory of the late John Poskett, a parish Councillor for 50 years. Many thanks to Chappell Dix for assistance with the timber, and to the Gazette for allowing us to use this article.

’14 flats’ application – site visit

PT07/1462/F is for the erection of fourteen (14) flats on the small parcel of land at the corner of Wotton Road and Little Bristol Lane. Due to the objections that have been made thus far to this application a site visit will be made by South Gloucestershire Sites Inspection Sub-Committee to assess the site.

The site visit will take place on Friday 26th October 2007, at 12:20.

Supporters and objectors are able to present their cases to the inspectors, but each ‘side’ has only a total of three minutes to make their case. No decision will be made at this visit.

Quarry Applications Refused!

An excellent result for some tranquillity at Churchend !

Both Cemex Quarry planning applications for extended hours were turned down at the Dev West Control meeting on 11th October. The Planning Committee voted 8 to 1 against.

Much was attributed to the doubt sown by the Atkins Report and Legal Advice on the Conditions and then, ultimately, on the vast number of lobbying letters that the Committee received. The Parish Council is very grateful to John Acton for his continued support and advice in assessing these detailed applications and for the hours of research undertaken on the council’s behalf.

Remember, the Quarry should be silent now after 7pm at night and the crushing and screening operations should not start before 6:30 in the morning. Outside of these hours they are in breach of their planning applications and S. Glos Council can now feel free to enforce if they wish………

The next meeting of the Quarry Liaison Group is on 23 October. It will be interesting to hear what reaction, if any, CEMEX have to the refusal of their applications, and more importantly, what are they doing about their main application (PT07/0573/F) which extends outside the permitted area?
