Broadband Update

For those of us on the Falfield exchange, I notice that we are listed for upgrade to “21st Century Networks (21CN)” at the end of October this year.

Potentially this opens up the west side of the parish to ADSL2 broadband with a maximum speed of 24Mb/s, although in fairness the distance from our ‘local’ exchange means we will likely receive far, far less than that – but more than we have at the moment. This graph somewhat disappointingly suggests that, at 5.3km from the exchange, we may receive between 2 and 4Mb/s… unless other additional works are undertaken.

Interestingly, those on the east side of the parish and fed from the Wotton exchange have been ADSL2 capable for some time. It’s not known at this time if anyone has found their Internet speeds ramped up noticeably.

The Council understands only too well how limiting poor broadband speeds are, and hopefully after October streaming services will spend less time displaying the hourglass… more news as we find out about it.
